I'm looking for a portable backup for my D70...basically, something that I can keep on hand in my purse. I want something advanced, but compact. I had been leaning toward a Digital Elph (possibly SD400 or SD500), but came across the S60 and S70 while browsing the Canon website and was instantly attracted to the RAW capability and the apperture priority and shutter priority modes. Does anyone have experience with either of these cameras?

Both are very capable (like a miniaturized Powershot G6), but not very small. Consider the Fuji FinePix F10. It's a tiny 3X zoom camera that offers many of the features normally reserved for a DSLR: 6.3 megapixels, instant-on, minimal shutter lag, extremely low noise (actually usable to ISO 800!), plus the additional benefits of a 2.5" screen, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and VGA movie mode. Pretty remarkable for a $289 camera!

Canon has announced the S80, the 8MP version. My dad has the S50 and I wish I could get him to upgrade and let me have his S50.
