Well it certainly ain't about letting folks get away with cheating.

I am confused by why anyone would want to cheat? A mistake yes but cheat?

A lot of people take this unbelievably seriously. And a lot of people just seem unable to NOT take advantage of a situation when they know they can. (Oh I won't win anyway, I might as well just edit that out...)

But being DQed doesn't equal cheating. There are a lot reasons that could happen: losing original files, forgetting to set the date/time on the camera, mistaking an advanced challenge for a basic etc etc. Hopefully there are relatively few blatent cheaters.

Oh don't get me wrong, i wasn't implying DQ = cheating. But i have no doubt whatsoever that showing any selective leniency, on any portion of the DQ process, would certainly open the floodgates to all those elements who don't mind bending the rules a little.

Besides, it's not like the DQ process and verification rules are hidden. They're the most obvious documentation on the entire site. I have little sympathy for those who go out and shoot for a dpchallenge contest within the short timeframe, and mash the update button every 10 minutes during voting, and yet can't send in their unedited original within 48 hours.

Edit: typo

The Administrator Announcements section is a good place to check for this sort of information - it's always posted there.
