My friend wants me to do some pictures for his auto shop there will be 6 beautiful girls and a few very nice cars. I really want to do this right so if you have some tips on how to light this, I need your help.
I have (2) umbrellas, (2) sml-med sized soft boxes, one large soft box, a few model lights, and a boom to put lighting way high and over if needed.
I can do a mix of indoor and outdoor, but since everyone is meeting up around noon I figure I will start with the indoor stuff first then move outside when the sun is lower.
Here is the catch I need to do it tomorrow.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give. |

I think the pertinent question would be to decide whether you're shooting the cars or the girls, and then stick to your guns :) Have fun.

Get some goods shots without the girls, a Ferrari should sell itself.

I am not sure which ones I am more excited to photograph, the models or the cars.
Anyway, I was thinking I could use two umbrellas at 45 deg angles to either side with a white sheet hanging in front of each one to diffuse the light and then using my 580ex on camera as a fill for the model. I really want to avoid any anoying reflections on the car mostly. |

Do you have a light panel, or at least a car window shade for the outdoor shots. It'd be cool to see a sunset shot with the car/model lighted in front of a darker background.
I don't pretend to be an expert (barely novice) but I'd think the soft boxes from one direction, with light panel with white/silver on the other side for some fill light, and a hair light on the model. a colored gel spot would come in handy too. Just have to see when you get there.

Pleeeese don't do shots of the girls semi naked draped over the bonnets of a ferrari, licking their lips and stroking the bonnet! This is just sooooo old hat and not the 21st century! Have some imagination and get some shots you are proud of and not just for men to drool over! Hopefully the girls will also have some up to date ideas if they are real models and not just posers!
:)

I totally agree, This shop I am doing the pics for is a custom fabrication shop. I was thinking it would be cool to get the girls to dress and act like welders/mechanics, with a sexy but tasteful twist. That way I can include some of the shops work as well.

Something I hadn't realized but found works pretty good is a circular polarizer to help keep the glare down on the car and the windows better. Not sure if you lighting will cause these problems but I was surprised how well it helped.
Good luck
