There has been a couple threads re: 20D and shutter release problems. Mine normall under medium to low light sometimes take up to 2-3 seconds of holding the shutter release before it actually takes. It does it with Canon lenses and Sigma even on fast shuuter preed and manual and auto focus. Anyone else having this problem still? What have you done? And did it fix the issue?
Thanks

What lens(es) are you using? (including make, focal length and minimum aperture)

Turn off autofocus. I notice that when the camera is not able to focus on something in autofocus mode without flash it will not fire.
If in creative mode, the camera needs to be able to adjust a parameter. If in full manual mode, manual focus, it should fire at will.

I just got done boxing up my 20D for shipping back to Canon because of similar problems. But mine shoots to quickly. As soon as the camera gets a focus lock, it fires even though the button is still only halfway down. Also, it does not come back from power save mode when the button is pushed. Grrrrrr, it's only 3 months old and will be out of service for all of the fall color season here. |

CANON 70-200f4 L
Cannon 50 f1.8
Canon 18-55 kit
Canon 75-300 USM
Sigma 24-70 f2.8
Does it with all, even when in manual focus and all appatures; there is a delay most of the time.

I usually don't shoot full manual, but I do a lot of shooting in AV mode. So if it has a hard time establishing the time it may delay even in maunal focus?

I first thought maybe you were using a slow non-USM, or a slow minimum aperture lens. But the first two you mentioned should focus very quickly.
I can't think of a single reason for it to not be "immediate" if you have switched to manual focus. I have never had mine shoot anything but immediately in MF mode.

I'm suddenly having the same problem. I've had my 20d for 1 1/2 years
and use it professionally, doing aviation photography for magazines. On my last shoot, suddenly I notice that I was holding the button for 1 sec. or longer before it would shoot. It's always been instantaneous before.
I'm wondering if I accidentally changed a custom function that affected the lag. I'm going to reset all my CFs and see if that helps, also check every setting in menu. I've tried going from one shot to AI Servo and other changes but nothing's helped so far. Manual shooting doesn't make a difference either, I was shooting manual when the problem first cropped up.

have you tried moving autofocus to the * button if you haven't already? Custom function 4.1 or 4.3 i believe will do it. |
