Why or why not? Discuss.

Nah, a turkey is a big, dumb, almost flightless bird. It doesn't even come close of meeting EU requirements.

On the more serious side, I am in no way an expert on Turkey, but I don't think it should be allowed into the EU until it respects human rights on a consistent basis. There still seems to be a few horror stories out there I think.

I think that it should be allowed into the EU because it taste so good.

I also think that Europeans would be happy if it entered in with a nice Apple Tarte topped with Creme Fraiche and a warm Sauce Armangnac.

Im in no way an expert on Turkey either. But I think that the majority of turkey is muslim which culturally doesnt seem to fit what Europe is about. They also have a large population so they would sway many decisions in their favour if they were in the EU.

Now that's a creepy statement that seems very right-wing German, I think...they don't fit what Europe is about? Don't you think Europe would be much better of if historically 'Muslim' countries and historically 'Christian' countries worked together?

Yes Turkey should be part of the EU.

I see you list Poland as one of your locations in your profile. Seems that you have forgotten that Poland was in Turkey's position in the very recent past?

As for human rights, the best way to improve the situation is from within the EU. There are religious-based problems in Turkey associated with, for instance, the provision of healthcare for women but, again, these are matters which can be addressed. Turkish Islam is not connected directly to government unlike most middle eastern countries so there can be rational discourse between it and the other EU countries. Just my opinion.

Please do not suggest me as right wing German since you can obviously see what nationality I am.

Obviously Europe has different needs than a mostly Muslim nation, many things would go Turkeys way in the voting since they have such a large population.

Yes, I believe it would be better if Turkey and Europe had the same goals, but everyone looks after themselves. And I do believe it would be great if they both worked together in the past but stuff like this seemed to happen.

Not until they stop harassing the Kurds. There have been some iffy imprisonments and other type of dubious actions on behalf of the Turkish government.
(Not that the Kurds have been any better, with terrorist tactics)

Turkey is a secular country, not a muslim one. Kemal Ataturk took care of that about 70 years ago when he restructured the nation. Turkey is, in part, on the European Continent and shares many "Western" ideals.

Should it join the EU? If it meets the appropriate standards, why not? After all, the EU let in Spain, and they're *gasp* mostly Catholic! (Not to forget how incredibly un-advanced they have been for most of the last century concerning elder-care, and women's rights to name a couple.)

I didn't suggest you as anything, I commented on your statement...it literally sounds like the position of the right-wing German government (unless I've misunderstood your position or Angela Merkel's). Look it up!

It surely sounded like a suggestion. Either way, I'm Polish, the complete opposite of what a right wing German is.

No Way!!!!

All Islamic nations and their citizens must be isolated and quarantined so the rest of the world can live in peace

Yup! Opposite....Germany in as a full member.
8 more years (like it or not) Poland in as a full member.
(Would someone please lock the door behind them?)

That's fantastic. Don't let that blind you from reading what I was really saying.

In this case you happen to show some agreement with a right-wing German...no big deal.

And I simply said the interests of Asia and Europe are different.

Damian, then why are you offended by my pointing out that "what you simply said" is the same as "what Angela simply said"?

None, I guess me and Angela and plenty of other people have this view.

Not a Joke, I'm completely serious. We have been putting up with their antics since the early 70's. Enough is enough.

What do you mean by quarantine and are you seriously blaming every muslim country for the actions of some muslim extremist groups?
Have you ever visited any muslim countries? Do you know any muslims? Do you know anything about what muslims believe in?
What about those countries that have a large muslim community but are not muslim governed?
Why am I bothering to ask you these questions? (rhetorical question) You are obviously as extreme as them!

I read this as I listen to Green Day

"and sing along to the age of paranoia
don't want to be an American idiot
one nation controlled by media
information age of hysteria
calling out to idiot America"

some how it all makes a lot more sense.
