Here's my complimentary challenge outtake. This was a toss up between my entry and this one but I went with a unique entry since I thought there would be tons of flowers.
Comments always welcome.

I think it's great. It fits the challenge and is creative.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't think it would have done too well. If you had left out the yellow spot and just gone with a purple background, it probably would have done pretty well. The yellow of the flower contrasts nicely with the purple and the purple center of the flower ties to the background very well indeed.
The yellow spot in the background ruins that picture because it kills your display of contrast for most of the flower. The yellow in the spot does not complement the yellow in the flower, it conflicts with it and attempts to take the attention where it should not.
I would not have detracted much for the somewhat imperfect appearance of the flower, but I'm sure some would have.
Another option might have been to have the flower in the lower right.

Well Rikki - I didn't enter that one, but I saw all the posts about the scientific analysis, mathematical equations and tests to determine whether your colors are complementary. I used some of that information combined with my own methodology to create a special magnetic resonance color analyzer that I will use on your outtake. Let's see how it does...

Love the complementary tester - I guess this would have failed your complementary test too.
