I really like it when we get the kind of results that occurred in the From the Ground Up II challenge, and here's why--
The top three are all first ribboners. How refreshing to see some new nicks at the top of the homepage. Three new people have acheived that goal, and I'm sure it means more to them than it would to people who already have several ribbons.
The blue went to a relative newbie to dpc who shoots with a non-DSLR camera. This should be inspiring to all those who haven't been here very long and all who are using basic type cameras.
The red went to a guy who has been hanging around dpc almost since the beginning, an old guy like me. It took him 124 challenges but he finally hit the jackpot, so maybe there is still hope for the many like myself who had just about written off our chances of getting a ribbon.
The yellow went to a guy whose work I have liked for quite some time, whose progress as a photographer I have tracked with delight and admiration; and a guy who is always very helpful to others in these forums.
A big CONGRATS to paul58, jimsapp, and skiprow. Thanks for the lovely images and for being an inspiration to us all in so many ways.
These are three talented photographers. I urge everyone to peruse their profiles and portfolios.

I don't feel like being at work today, I'd rather be out celebrating my fourth place finish with a few beers. How totally unexpected, a great surprise to wake up to!

thanks, harv, and everyone else! yes, this has been quite a happy day! and damn, i can't believe how close i edged slippy by. that margin is more than enough to justify an extra shot of celebration (now there's an idea...). |

Congratulations to paul58, jimsapp, and skiprow. And my appreciation to Coolhar for starting this wonderful thread. There is so much good talent here at DPC and it is hard to score a win since there are only 3 awards per challenge. It is refreshing to see first time winners. I am happy for all of you. To those of you who are still waiting, keep shooting and keep learning and above all, keep looking at images. be persistent and your turn will arrive. |
