Does a dust bunny or lens speck bother you while voting? What if it's a well composed image but in an open challenge, you can't clone out that annoying dust. Do you downgrade the image when you score it? Just wondering because it seems like people just comment about the dust and not about the image itself. Of course, one can always clone out the dust if he/she believes it won't score high but don't we all, even remotely, think that our entry would rank high?

Then again, SC only asks for proof for the top 5.

Thoughts?

It wouldn't bother me in an open challenge. I know what it's like to have annoying little things that can't be edited due to the basic rules. I even recall one of heida's images having sensor dust in it, I think it may have even been a ribbon winner.

And even if I thought my photo wasn't going to be the clear winner, I wouldn't risk editing. I'm just a rule-follower like that - always honest.

I know what you mean though. People comment on funny things, and miss the bigger point. I had one image where a few people told me a little tree in the image was a distraction. As though cutting down the tree was an option, lol. I knew what they meant, but it was a basic challenge, so cloning it out wasn't an option. Sometimes you just gotta do what you can with a scene the way it is. :)

Just because you assume that proof won't be requested doesn't justify breaking the rules. Sure, you probably won't get caught, but I would expect more integrity than that from DPC members.

I agree Justin. I've never cloned anything out in an open challenge. Always followed the rules. However, expecting 100% integrity might be wishful thinking don't you think?

Yes, very much so. I don't mean to appear contradictory, I guess it's more accurate to say high integrity on DPC should be hoped for, maybe not expected.
