Mine was planning a whole trip around taking some concert photos, and the camera dying on me after the first shot at the concert. That was the first 717 I bought and it had memory stick slot issues that I kept sending it back for. It kept not recognizing when a memory stick was installed.
When I brought it back to Ciruit City for the third go-round, (after the trip) I demanded a new camera. The new one I got has worked flawlessly since then.
One thing it taught me though....at any important event, whether it's vacation, a wedding - anything you can't really recreate - always have a back up camera. When I move up to the dslr, my 717 will definitely become a nice back up. |

Well, lets see....before I shot professionally I worked in a pro photo lab. the worst day there was the day the big dip & dunk film processor bent a film rack in the middle of a run. (Of course, loading & running that thing was my job) It's not easy getting it back on track in pitch black but we did. (Boss & I) and got everything through but one roll of 120 by babysitting and hand timing & cranking it for over an hour in the dark. the one lost roll spent about 45 minutes in the bottom of the developer by the time we found it. thank goodness for pro grade film...I managed to print black & whites from it but it was a goner for color. good thing, it belonged to a pro wedding photographer (and fortunately very good friend of my boss)
during MY careeer, the time I dropped my camera on the concrete floor while shooting a horse show...thank goodness for my back-up lens. (camera kept working, somehow but I used a friends camera ,just in case, to finish the show)
...and the most recent: shooting a wedding for one of me best friends as my gift to her (I usually only do horse related events) I had been shooting indoors at 800 ISO during the reception and we went outside for some formals. I fogot to change the camera and ended up with 5 totally blown out photos of my friend, her husband, her stepmom & two brothers who flew 1500 miles to be there. I caught it after just they left and the rest of my pix were fine. fortunately I had taken others of them inside but they were not near as pretty as what I could have had. |

Yup thats an easy one. I fowarded my portfolio cd to a local paper for consideration for freelance. I called the guy a week later to find out what he thought. He asked me if I wanted him to be brutally honest and of course I agreed. He said " You suck! all your pictures are out of focus and they look like crap snapshots of some vacation and a family" I immediatley realized I sent him a copy of a cd from our family vacation, particularly the copy of MY SIX YEAR OLD SONS shots!!!I could not have been more embarrassed than that moment. I explained to him I was making other cd copies at the time I copied the portfolio and made a mistake. He was understanding and agreed to let me send the original portfolio which I still haven't done. I guess I am a little too embarassed to do it now. |

Nick,
That is painfully humorous. From many years of waiting tables, I will share an observation of human nature: Some of the best tips I got were after I spilled the customer's drink. People either love the opportunity to be gracious, or they enjoy a laugh at someone else's expense.
Either way, I think you should send the disc. At least you know the guy is honest and won't give you the runaround. Good luck! |
