is this anything showing what is good in the world?

That's what I was thinking...anything that makes the viewer feel good...anyone else?

Hmmmmm - I think you're right, but here is a definition at dictionary.com:

1. To observe an occasion with appropriate ceremony or festivity.
2. To perform a religious ceremony.
3. To engage in festivities: went out and celebrated after the victory.

I never think of #2 when I think of the word, but what do I know?

Ok, here we go (from the thesaurus):

Anniversary, bash, birthday, blast, blowout, carousal, ceremony, conviviality, festival, festivity, fete, frolic, gaiety, gala, glorification, hilarity, honoring, hoopla, hullabaloo, jollification, joviality, jubilation, jubilee, keeping, magnification, memorialization, merriment, merrymaking, observance, old home week, party, performance, recognition, remembrance, revelry, solemnization, spree, triumph, wingding

description excerpt: This week, let's all find cause to celebrate. Devote your photographic energies to making us feel good about ourselves and our lives.

Things that make you or others feel good - something to celebrate human happiness or goodness. You know, something you see that makes you smile, say "wonderful", "way to go", or maybe makes you choke up and get tearful for seeing something so moving (in a good positive way).

Our school received a grant to host the MIlestones Project: Celebrating Childhood Around the World. Milestones Project The project is a collection of 23,000 photos of children around the world experiencing different milestones of childhood. The point is to have children understand other children around the world are celebrating the same things we do, things like losing their front teeth. We are more alike than we are different. Our first of 3 years worth of exhibits is about 3 things: "skills" "first pets" and "crawling" The exhibit went up over the weekend so I haven't had the opportunity to check it out yet but I've heard from the parent setting things up the photos are wonderful.

On another note: My 7th grade son came home with a paper saying he's getting an A- in his social studies class. He has mild learning disabilities so getting an A on anything is hard for him. I cried... then we went out for cheap, greasy pizza to celebrate. I doubt anyone but me would understand a photo of a paper with an A and a greasy pizza :-)

I think that would have more universal appeal than you think. ;^)

He'd love to go again -- even if it meant the dreaded posing for photos :-)
