It'd be interesting for us geeks to know some technical logistics of the site....
Size of DB/tables? number of tables, transactions per hour, spindle loading on the DB disks. Server topology (n-tier, single box, web/db split?).
Just curious really, as I know if we all start sticking our oar in with solutions davidc will start ignoring us. :-).
I look after a couple of heavyduty LAMP apps, and I know they can be a pain to tune at times...

Shoot. I think Godzilla just toasted the only Known Good Router on the site.
All that's left are those packet-droppin' sumsbiches. |

It happens almost every night when there is a new challenge. Usually after about an hour or so everything goes back to normal. Doesn't this look like a pattern???
