Yesterday was my wife's family's fishing tournament in Rhode Island. She has a huge family on her mother's side, and her grandfather from Germany loved to fish- so, its called the OPA CUP. Almost every year since 1988- There are seven boats and 30 or so fishermen/woman all in the same family or realted by marriage. The opa cup is the biggest bluefish; also biggest striper is a prize and catch and release. WE usually have a great time no matter what, but this year...
I won for the second time. Once in 1999, Now again in 2005. Nothing like blowing your own horn!
Here's a picture of my wife and I, and also captain Karl of my boat, who took a nasty treble hook in the hand. We had to push it through and cut the barb off!

That cool your family does this. "The family that fishes together stays together." :) Congratulations on your second win.
My husband is out crappie fishing right now. He's ate up with it. :) |

I love crappie sandwiches. We fish for those in Lake Wateree south carolina.
Here's me with the winner, small this year 9.9Lbs, andone of the many annoying dogfish we caught.

How do you cook the crappies? We had those up at the POwers Pond when I was a kid...but if we caught them we had to throw them back because we were told they were trash fish....couldn't eat em'.
I wonder if they're one in the same? (Powers is SW Oregon)

| These are essentially big black sunfish, with one good palm size filet. The sandwiches I am talking about were breaded and fried in Peanut oil. THey have a less fishy taste than say catfish, but a flaky smooth texture. Definitely not sunfish, and not trash fish. really the best fish sandwich you will ever have. too small to grill though. |

| Boy, if crappie were trash fish I wouldn't have eaten fish until I was an adult. I doubt there are too many lakes here in Texas without crappie. Yummm. |
