Is there a way to remove color selectively in Basic Editing? For example, in the second place picture in the Rule of Thirds challenge, would there be a way to only have the ant and ritz bits in color with the rest of the picture black and white? I have seen some recent entries like this and am not sure whether to reccomend DQ or if I just need to learn a new technique.

I took the image in photoshop and by desating the blue, red, and magenta channels most of the image except the crackers were desated.

The trick is to have an image with well defined color channels or the ability to shift the color channels you need to.

I'm sure somebody can give a better answer than me. But my understanding for basic editing is, in general, that whatever you do to the picture must be done to the whole picture. If you desaturate a particular color (red, green, blue) then that's just fine. So if you have a picture with a dominant blue area, you can desaturate the red and the green and be left with the desired blue.

Can you remove a specific color, such as puce? I don't think so. Maybe somebody has a better take on this than I do. Hope so.

Update: Well...as I was composing my initial reply, I see the cavalry already swooped in with all sorts of cogent comments. I guess I'm too slow on the draw!
