Which is better to use for the 20D a regular polarizer or a circular polarizer filter? Or does it not matter? |

You must use a circular polarizer if you still want the AF system to work. Some cameras the meter is also effected by linear polarizers. |

That's what I was afraid of. I got a "buy two get one free deal" at Wolf's, and after I got home wondered if I should've gotten a circular one instead. That's what I had originally asked for, but at the time, the lady didn't see any. I haven't opened it yet, so I'm going to take it back. Thanks!

For the 17-85 lens you have, you're going to need a thin circular polarizer or it may vignette at wide angle. |

wouldn't the crop factor eliminate that problem?
nevermind... EF-S...

EF-S lenses are still subject to crop factor, but that has nothing to do with this type of vignetting. A normal circular polarizer has a thick, threaded metal ring around it that may be within the field of view on wide angle lenses and show up as dark areas at the edges of the image. On thin or ultra thin polarizers, the filter ring doesn't protrude as far and is less likely to be visible. |

Oh, thanks! I'm glad I checked this forum one more time before I went into work. I'll see if they have a thin one. |
