need more information about the literal artwork rule? we wrote a tutorial.

more challenges? we just had FOUR last week!

too many entries in the challenges? we're working on experiments to change that.

voting guidelines? do you want people to tell YOU how to vote, or do you think we should just talk to the people voting on YOUR shots?

too many rant threads? we started a rant forum.

too many rant threads on the home page? you can turn them off.

signatures in forum posts too big? you can turn those off.

not enough disk space in your portfolio? *poof* increased it by 150%

no easy way to report forum naughtiness? instituted the "report post" button.

don't like the way a thread is going? BAM! new "ignore thread" feature.

want to keep tabs on a thread? YOWZAH! "watched threads" feature.

think you can make up better challenges? challenge suggestions forum. ("coffee shop," incidentally, was just suggested this weekend.)

i don't think you're giving us a fair shot when you say that this site isn't evolving. i think you mean to say it's not evolving fast enough for you.

You mean the suggestions that lead to this or the work on this or this one from a while back?

That's not a lot, and maybe not what you were meaning, but all site challenges that D & L choose to make usually come from user suggestions.

What a lot of the bickering and griping comes down to is the fact that there are people that are much more willing to argue a point when they don't have to face the person they are arguing with. Not a lot SC can do about that.

The initial problems that I see with "accountability" is that when we establish a "level" of accountability, someone somewhere will yell about it.

We have the ToS. Following those is the independent members' responsibilities. When they are not followed, then SC can step in.

Kind of like, when you make something completely idiot-proof, they come up with a better idiot?
(Hehe! I jus love bumper stickers)

I'm not sure what threads you've been reading and which you are referring to as petty bickering, but I would look at it this way:
You're getting a lot more than a photography education for your money on DPC. You're finding out about what people feel passionate about; human nature and psychology; human interaction and communication; current affairs; conflict management; and so on...

YOu may actually learn a lot more from heated arguments and fighting than from milquetoast wonderbread happy smileyfaced discussions.

DPC has a lot of meat on its bones, so feast yourself and start a rant we can really fight about! Arrrrggghhh!!!

i dont think this is anything new. It happens to almost all internet forums as far as i know. people have opinions, and people are also sensitive about their opinions - so disagreements always happens.

Some are focused. Some are not. It's all up to you which you want to be.
Nice,isn't it?
