Ok, I'm not disappointed with my 'thirds' pic, it scored a 5.37. Not too bad, but not too great either. The vast majority of votes were a 5 or 6, but yet, it still got four 9's and even one 10 ! How could this be??? What is up with these voters? And no comments to explain why such a high score! I can't believe it. If people are gonna vote over a 8, they should be required to leave a comment why! It's so darned frustrating. Arrrggghh!!! If I'm gonna give someone a 10, I at least have the guts to tell them why I felt it deserved that! Are these trolls or what??? People trying to vote mediocre shots high so they have a better chance at getting the brown with their own entry?
C'mon people, OPEN your eyes and get real, will ya???
Sorry, I just had to vent. If any SC feels the need to move this to rant, go ahead, I understand.
Thanks,,, I feel much better now :-P

It almost seems that you're angry at these high-scoring voters... What ticks me off even more (as I'm sure it does others just as much) is when I get a low score such as a 1 or 2 without an accompanying comment. But I guess this could be equally frustrating. Usually when I'm voting and I give someone an 8-10 it's because I really like the shot, and I let them know that I liked it including what I liked about it.

Justin, Taterbug has written a satirical post. After every challenge, it seems, someone rants about undeserved 1's and 2's and demands some means of forcing people to explain them if they give them. NOBODY ever complains about getting scores higher than they deserved.
Tater's post is a stone-cold brilliant sendup of that sort of rant.

Ah, point taken. I actually didn't read the whole post so I think that's where I went wrong. Thanks for pointing that out Rob.

I'll second that! Awesome. But now someone's gonna ask for "WARNING: Satirical / Parody" add to the list of required thread subject lines with the nudity and large images warnings. :)
And they're "Anti-Trolls", tater. They provide a balance in the force. ;-) |

Don't feel bad, I got 4 tens... for a floating duck-head! LOL
OMG, I just realized something really bizarre.
The title implies that the duck (who's the spokesper.. err spokesduck for an insurance company), just "got the axe"... I swear I didn't see that when I entered it! Now I don't know if I'm more twisted for seeing that or for announcing it.

Although I understand your tongue in cheek displeasure with the 10 score, you also are (I believe) serious in your wanting an explanation of the single 10.
FWIW, my photograph also received a 10 score, although it finished near last in this challenge. It had 14 comments, all stating the same defect, "blurry". My conclusion is that some kind soul, felt compelled to offset the "1 trolls" and give every photograph in the challenge a 10. As a voter, they can score whatever they choose.
In my case, a comment on a 10 score was not needed, it was either an intentional act defying the "1" givers, or sympathy.
Either way, it is what it is.

Click on your photograph in the challenge. It will display all the scores, comments, data, etc.
Your photograph can be accessed either by your profile page or by opening the "3rd's" challenge and vieweing the results, finding your photograph and clicking on it.

Oh yeah?!?! I got zero ones or twos on my destinations entry!!! It completely blows my Troll-Buster theory out of the water. Actually I think it's a conspiracy to totally discredit me as an artist and troublemaker.

I think you got the 10's because the color balance is very nice on the eyes in this frame. To someone who has no idea of comp. this shot is very very good just because it's very pleasing to the eye. to someone who is well studied in comp. this shot is stil very good because of the color contrast you chose for this shot. I thought overall this shot would do a little better than it did, mabey it was the noise that messed it up. I gave it an 8 because of the noise.

Got you beat Scalvert...
My "A Pearl of Great Price" received a 3.9 and garnered me a 10 vote AND my first favorite if I recall correctly. ;)
Sadly, I new very little about night photography and it was the most interesting cloud pattern. I posted it, cause I thought the result was intriguing (it looks more like some cosmis cloud or nebulae) and second because I was hoping to get advice feedback on lunar photography. Which I've gotten better at....now it's time for the stars!!!!

Yeah ... satire and sarcasm aside, people need to look more closely at each image. The pressure to vote on all these pictures might cause voters to make quick-clicks ... sometimes missing the point of the photo. Looking at the winner of "bubbles" there were 20 votes scoring 3 or under. To me, this appears to be people either in disbelief ... or trying to offset scores as you have suggested. I think in this case it was a little of both but if you think something is "fake" or breaks the rules -- a low score is not the answer. Additionally, high scores (like "10" on an image should get a comment i agree... because 10 means pretty much "perfect" ... My bubbles image got a message that read "10" ... was that helpful???
