For date storage?
A while back I bought this computer (it's not on warrenty anymore) with a DVD writer. Now that I have finally gotten around to trying to backup my old photos and data en masse I find that it does not work. So I've learned my lesson and will buy a new writer.
So here's my problem - I bought all sorts of DVD's to try and get my writer to work - +R, -R, +RW, -RW - and want to know what writer will use as many of these as possible. All I am seeing is writers that work with the + ones.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

It seems like you really need an external DVD writer. So you can use it with different computers, and not have to worry when you change your current computer. My personal choice would be the Iomega Super DVD writer:
//www.iomega.com/direct/products/detail.jsp?current_tab=2&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=23766615&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=26891281&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=63191&bmUID=1127739470306#prod-info-nav
It should take care of any format you might encounter until either Blu-ray or its rival comes to power. |

I bought a SONY one for my computer.
Burns "+" and "-" formats and will also read and write dual layer (not that I have had the need for that yet!)
Payed about £100 for it... |

the iomega looks like a good choice for your needs, mikasi. I'm not happy about a DVD format war :( |

Can you all please fix that link?
You can either click the little icon that looks like a globe or use this website to make links smaller:

I have a HP 640c. It is a duel-layer DVD+/- RW burner and also has Lightscribe.
