Hi.
I need a basic notebook for photography.
Something that I can download images to, do the Photoshop bits, and distribute via email, cd or dvd, when I am not at the office.
On a budget.
Any suggestions ? |

I would suggest you trying to find an older G3 powerbook, fill it with 512MB RAM and photoshop will run quite nicely, My Wife-to-be uses a G3 Powerbook 500mhz 512MB RAM 40GB HDD DVD drive the screen is 15" and it cost us approx $350 inc. we then bought TIGER OS-X and it works fine, she uses PS 7.0 and has enjoyed worry free picture editing and web surfing for almost a year. I would not suggest buying a CHEAP laptop by a NAMELESS company, they sound like a great bargain but windows is subject to viruses and freezes/crashes etc and these unheard of makers that offer super deals on new laptops use cheap materials and are very easy to break IMO.
secondhand is a good option. Happy shopping.

Cyberpower usually has great prices. We bought a notebook there over a year ago, and we love it. A lot of the guys my husband works with have also bought their notebooks there.
We hear that customer service leaves something to be desired - (it's apparently one of those "outsourced" to India situations), but we've never had to use it, so don't have firsthand experience.
BE AWARE that if you want a "color" one - it takes up to 6 weeks to get it, and they don't tell you that until AFTER you order.
