...look absolutely terrible? The red of the leaf is blocky, and the blurred branches have AWFUL jpg artifacts. I have a couple ideas about why the compression algorithm barfed on those elements, but would be interested to hear from some jpg experts.
BTW, my photo is "Hanging On" from the "Free Study" challenge. |

Looks OK on my screen in thumbnail.
If pushed I'd say it looks vaguely blurry lower right.
But mostly it looks fine.
It's not the kind of image that has strong lines and light and shadow - it works because of all the detail - so it's never going to look as good in thumbnail as your Dune shot, for example.
