Thanks Fritz,
I guess you can figure out why I'm asking you to add the II N. :)
When you come out to CA, let me know.

I sure will let y'all know when I'm out there! I wonder whether you'll get your IIn before I get my 5D??

It seems Norman Camera in MI has them in stock. So I ordered one today.
I'm expecting it next week, unless it's suddenly out of stock. Norman Camera rates very high, so I don't think they are one of those crooked outfits.
I guess I'll be getting mine before your 5D since it won't be available till "early" October, which in Cannon terms means "perhaps November or December."

Yep, Norman Camera is very highly rated. It does look like you will beat me to the punch. I called Calumet today, where I've ordered my 5D, and they had no specific date, though production 5Ds have turned up in the UK, Singapore, and (!!)Iceland. Darn terje ;-)
I suspect I'll get my cam in the next week or two, if I'm lucky enough to get one of the first shipment to Calumet.

Yea, as for the IIN, they were in Canada before U.S.. I guess Canon doesn't like the USA for some reason. Oh well.
It's kind of sad in some ways. I think the 5D spells the upcoming doom of the cropped sensors. I like tele more than wide, so the cropped sensor was a good thing for me as it used the "sweet spot" of regular lenses. Only downside is the dim/small viewfinder. I think the 1D's sensor is a good compromise for me, still uses the sweet spot but has a bigger viewfinder, get a bit more reach than a FF.
I'm starting to think the 20D's replacement maybe a decontented 5D in FF and the entry Rebel will only be the dSLR in Canon's lineup with a cropped sensor at even a lower price. Good way for Canon to charge more for a camera since it's got a FF. They say the profit in digicams has dried up and the new profitable market is the dSLR area and in a land full of upcoming competition, having FF sensors while others have a smaller sensor seems a good way for Canon to distinguish itself and charge more for their cameras. For me, more than 10MP's is just too much. I really don't plan on printing much. I guess if you regularly make large prints, the FF and the extra MP's may be of value. I guess others just like more wideangle photography as well.
When do you plan to be out here Fritz? I'm also in a Yahoo club that shoot almost every weekened, so if DPC folks aren't shooting, you can always join us, although it's more often event photography. I guess if you like macro, we can always go to Huntington Library and have you shoot flowers all day.

Norman Camera is right down the street from my house in Kalamazoo. They're a pretty good bunch, been around for a long time too. I just wish they didn't have a double pricing structure. The price on the web is usually much lower than the in-store price.

Stop over there and tell them to send my II N right away, will ya? :)
Samy's Camera in Pasadena has the same policy. I once questioned them on it, asking "hey, I saw this for this amount of the web." The salesman explained the policy, but charged me the online price. Maybe you can ask and they might give you an online price. Atleast your sales tax is what 5% if I remember, in LA, it's 8.25%. Now that's steep.

I think I know why it is slow getting in to America. A little thank you note from the Developers in Japan got a little mangled in translation and is causing minor delays at some US Customs locations:
With Much Determination, We Must Deliver this Wonderfully Mastered DigiCam. While Magnificent Detail Wants Mindful Display, Winning Master's Divulge: Wine May Destroy things Without Marginal Defenses. We Manifestly Discourage Wet, Messy Destruction.
Please Enjoy your new Weatherproof Marvel of Development.
