a friend of mine uses this program for his business but not many people use it for basic photo editing. Is photoshop good enough? the archives have 6 votes under photoimpact. strange considering its also used for building websites, and working with layers are much easier.

I use Ulead Photoimpact XL.
I have been using Ulead since version 3.5 or ver 4. I find it much easier to work with than Adobe Photoshop.
Ulead is great for fast, quick and basic edits. Plus it can do a lot more. the web design part I have never used. Some of the tools are identical to Photoshop.
For the money its a great program, but I think Adobe Elements 3, may have a slight advantage over Ulead Photoimpact.

I've been using Ulead PhotoImpact since way way back in 1998 with 3.02se :o) I'm now on version 10 (upgraded from 7), and still going strong. I find it very easy for editing photos, and has all the controls I need. In fact, I've got PS:CS, but hardly ever use it, especially since PI can use PS plugins!
However, there are a few drawbacks with PI, as the tools aren't quite as slick or comprehensive as PS. I think it's just a case of what you're used to, and what you expect to be able to do - PI is definitely great value for money, but PS is still the king.

I also started with PhotoImpact but usually use PS:CS for most of my work now.
I still use PhotoImpact for certain things that I find easier like making selections that can be feathered. All of my multi-image digital art I find a lot easier in PhotoImpact for example... |

I LOVE MT PHOTOIMPACT!! I HAVE BEEN CONSIDERING UPGRADEING (SO TO SPEAK) TO PSCS2 ONLY BECAUSE THERE ARE MORE PLUGINS AND IDEAS AND TIPS OUT THERE FOR THE PS. |

No need to shout :o) PI supports PS plugins, so you needn't upgrade just for those...

All post editing for this image done in PhotoImpact ver.7 & quite happy with the final results of the image compared with what I had to start with (the foreground was very dark)
Just downloaded the trial ver. of 10 but have been using Photoshop and Corel PhotoPaint more recently for greater control over image adjustments.
