A quick and simple question about paypal...sure I could figure it out but I'm sure one of you knows!
Q: Will I get charged for 'receiving funds' through paypal? The website says "Personal accounts are free, but may not receive debit or credit card payments"...huh? I always understood it was 3% to accept funds.
How can somebody send money to me through paypal?

Oh, I'm in Canada if it makes a difference (and so is the funds-sender).

almost certian it means that people can send you money from their checking/savings account but not from credit/debit cards. Haven't used my account in a while so I'd have to double check that.

if you have a personal account you don't get charged but you can't receive card payments. if you upgrade your account then you can receive cards but you pay a transaction fee. they make their money by charging you to withdraw, i think. Don't know. normally spent it by then.

Premium Accounts get hit 2.9% + .30 cents per transaction (all transactions).
If you are like me and are too lazy to pull your paypal monies (or better yet I haven't found the perfect lighting kit) convert the money in your paypal account to shares in the company which is currently paying about 3%, when you purchase something your shares are cashed out and the money is used towards the purchase.

To accept credit card payments, you'll have to upgrade to either a premier or business account. For both types you'll be charged for every transaction, regardless of whether it's by credit card or available funds. There's a small fee for withdrawing into a Canadian bank account but waived for any withdrawls over $150CDN. If you can tie your Paypal account to a US bank account it will always be free to withdraw funds.

Excellent, thanks so much! I've upgraded my account (no charge for the upgrade) to Premier and can now accept payments with the fees pulled off each payment I receive.
