I just bought a Canon Digital Rebel XT and I needs the world's coolest case to put it in. Not ugly, not too big, not fragile, something that would be worthy of the president. Any ideas??
:-)
Thanks!!!

How about something which doesn't advertise "expensive camera to steal in here!" Personally, I scout secondhand shops for used luggage and bags to use as equipment cases; pay $2 and get free camouflage ... : )

I have this one and love it: Canon Bag

Big enough to hold the camera, 4 lenses, my flash and all of my accessories.

Yeah, and then steal a 3 wheeled shopping cart to wander about looking for free cardboard.

jk

I am too poor to buy a camera bag now. Until I save up for one I just wrap my camera in some newspaper and put it in my pocket. If it is raining I put it in a plastic bag.

Does it have dividers inside??

Yup. Also has straps on the front to hold a monopod too. They also sell this bag at BestBuy so you can check it out first if you want before ordering it.

Divided it into six sections (all padded and adjustable via velcro)... 4 squares for the the lenses, 1 larger rectangle for the camera and one small rectangle for the flash.

I ended up with this Quantaray bag. I tried several of the Tamerac and LowePro bags, but this one had the best combination of size, extra pockets, and just the right inner dimensions to fit my flash (420EX) along with lenses and other misc. stuff.

I have 2: a tamrac pro8 and a tamrac velocity 3.
Both shoulder bags. (I don't like rucksacks). The pro8 is a good large bag. Room for 2 slrs, 5ish lenses, bagsa filters, and has a battery/card compartment on an elastic strap. Does all I need.
Until it gets too heavy. Hence the velocity: 1slr, 2 lenses, flash and a couple filters. Perfect. Also will fit my PDA, battery charger and car adaptor and a notebook, if i'm really careful.

I have looked at the lowepro stuff, but none of it ever seems to be the right shape for my stuff. And I also don't like buying online cos I wanna go and put my stuff in the bag abd see how ell it fits and what the bag feels like full.
Just my 2 pennyworth.

Edit:to add links

Even though it seems like a lot of people aren't big fans, I adore my LowePro! I find their products awesome, especially if you like hiking or camping. I have a ultra comfortable backpack which has dividers and plenty of extra room for lenses and a small lunch in case I go on a day hike or something- yet it's small enough that I could safely and easily pack it in a larger pack for a longer trip. I do have a smaller "camera only" piece of crap and I hardly ever use- except for quicky shoots.

Anyway, I'd say, if you're into a rustic lifestyle then definatly go with the durable Lowepro, BUT it's nice to have a little something extra depending on where you're going and what you're doing (ie, a small little "camera only" case).

Try looking through the stuff at Kata.

Definitely worthy of something. Their stuff is pretty out of the ordinary high-end, stuff-science-fiction-is-made of stuff. To me their things look like a cross between turtle shells and battle armor. It has the potential to make one look ultra-cool, but also has the potential to make one look ultra-geeky.

The combo backpack/cameracase I got from Lowpro is sitting in the garage somewhere only because I am too lazy to sell it. I found it useless: a) backpack portion is tiny b) you have to take the pack off everytime you want something in your camera pack. That may be ok if you are headed to a destination but if you are shooting on the way it is a real pain.

I use a Lowepro Orion Beltpack now with an additional shoulder strap and a regular NorthFace backpack. I have yet to find the perfect solution but this one works better for me than a combo pack.

Here is the place for you! Crumpler Bags They have all kinds of styles: backpacks, shoulder bags, messenger bags. I bought the 7 Million Dollar Home which is very spacious and it doesn't scream "Camera Bag." Plus their website is very strange and unique.

I loved mine until I got the 70-200 IS and then everything wouldn't fit right. Then I got this: Canon Backpack. Although not as "pretty" as the other Canon bag, it fits more than the other Canon bag (still not enough though) and a lot easier to carry.

I have both of them bags. I use the backpack mostly because it's easier to carry around. My wife says I bought the backpack because it has more slots to put stuff therefor I can buy more stuff to put in it. LOL. Could there be some truth to this? I always get busted.

Hmmm... well that is not good news. I have 1 more spot in the bag ready for my 70/200 f/4L. Did it not fit because the lens was too tall or because you just didn't have any more room in the bag? My 100mm f/2.8 Macro fit fine with lens hood attached so I was assuming that the 70-200 would fit too.

I don't think that is a smart solution to do, I think your camera will catch humid or water condence anyway.. and that's not good

It's the same price at BestBuy(atleast it was when I bought it) as it is at B&H. Save yourself the S&H and just buy it at BestBuy if you have one in your area.

Well, the 70-200 f4 is just over 2 inches longer than the 100mm 2.8 but a little slimmer (no hoods). My 70-200 is 3 inches longer and almost 1/2 inch wider and I couldn't make it work. I keep my hood on in the backpack too with the camera attached so it's ready to go when I need it. You might be able to sqeeze it in there, but it would probably be pretty tight. Take it to a Best Buy and try it out first. Don't get me wrong, it's a great bag, but didn't suit my needs in that aspect.

That is one freakin weird site. What all will fit in yours?

I already have the bad.. had it for a while and love it. it's the lens that is on the way. Shouldn't be a problem if it's only 2 inches longer than the 100. Thanks for the info.

Well, for what it's worth I have this Lowepro shoulder bag and I can fit ALL my equipment in it. thats: D70 body + kit lens, sigma 105mm, nikkor 50mm, sigma 10-20mm, nikkor 80-400mm, sb-800 flash + extra batteries and other small trinkets.

For hikes or travel I have the compu-trekker AW that I just love. I'll eventually have a laptop so this bag will be perfect!
