I did a google search but I'm confused about the results. I've seen lots of drinks, but also pies and fruit! What is a beverage, and is there a certain meaning which we should focus on for the challenge?

It's the same as a drink.

It's my last name! Except its spelled "Beveridge" but it sounds the same, so could I take a self-portrait of myself? I think not

rgo...remember english is not everyones first language and beverage over in Germany may be different than here.

from websters: a drinkable liquid, so poison could be a beverage, milk, water, juice, cream, alcohol, etc.

I guess beverage is anything liquid and ment for human consumption, so motor oil is not a beverage, but vegetable oil is ;)

Thanks for the swift answers. The only thing that confused me is that the search results had lots of pies and desserts.

Never mind :) Even some Germans think it's part of their country...

Official proclamation:

It is perfectly fine to give someone a "1" for entering a photo of a "pie" or piece of fruit in the beverage challenge. Without comment. Absolutely no subjective wiggle room here.

What about an apple pie smoothie?

I looked up beverage and it is simply defined as "A nekkid woman."

I'm looking forward to scoring the Beverage challenge.

according to my dictionary - beverage: any liquid for drinking, esp. other than water.

I thinks me needs a more current dictionary.

ok I'm stretching here big time but what if your jaw is broke and you have to have your food liquified, then your hamburger could be a beverage...eww I squirm at the thought. Of course I'm joking about this and wouldn't recommend anyone trying it...(the photo or the liquid hamburger)

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the classification of soup ... :-)

soups are liquidfied foods (soilds)
beverages were liquids to begin with.
(edit to add - or thier base element was liquid to begin with for the apple pie smoothie example - youre going to have to put the pie in some sort of liquid - milk i hope!- to be able to blend the pie into a smoothie)

Those people may have mentioned an accompanying beverage somewhere in their description, as in "some people like apple pie with cofffee, others with a cold beverage such as milk." Google will probably find it in a search for beverage.

: )

Broth, bullion, or consomme might be considered a beverage -- buillion especially comes with instructions for preparing it in a cup to drink.

Personally, I think once you thicken it or put chunks of stuff into it so you have to eat it with a spoon, it becomes a "food."

Ha, this stuff is great. It just goes to show how minutely detailed we can get with a definition.

So...would orange juice be a beverage? The orange was a solid food first. What if it's orange juice with pulp?

Off the point but... I had my jaws wired together for three months and had to only "eat" liquids - I can verify that practically everything can be liquidised but the final result varies considerably! I can't consider all liquids to be beverages but all beverages must be liquid!

I think any food that is liquified is NOT going to make a pretty picture, whether it meets the challenge or not!

Reminds me of one of my favorite "liberal" bumper stickers:
