There is an article in "popular Photography" about Hoya's multi coated filter that makes the digital lenses sharper with a better color balace and contrast..

anybody have it?

is it worth buying...
i have a great experience with Hoya Filters.. just wondering.

That would have to be under certain conditions only, or maybe they were talking about a polariser? I assume we're talking about pixel peeping here?

If you're using a decent lens you can only degrade, or at mest maintain, the resulting quality of the lens by putting a filter on the front, unless you're looking for a specific effect or change in the image like a polariser effect, or colour shift/blocking.

This is one of those age old debates around camera circles. At the end of the day, adding more bits of glass in front will increase the likelyhood of flare, ghosting, and aberations. Multi-coated filters (Such as HMC, or Sigma EX, or B+W, or......) reduce these problems by using similar coatings on the filter element as is on the lens.

The major benifit of having a filter on the front is protecting the precious lens element from stones/fingers/dust/water/etc.

So the debate rages on......

Were there any large display adds for Hoya in that eddition of PP?

For what it's worth I use sigma EX MC filters on all my lenses, as I can't get HMC here, and B+W are silly expensive in New Zealand. I've never been able to blame a difference in sharpness on filters on my good glass, with digital, or back in the film days, although having a filter on the 17-40 can lead to more flare at the wide end, which is no big suprise.

Cheers, Me.

Can you be more specific regarding what type of filter the magazine was discussing? Please.
