Just wanted to shamelessly push my auction that's going off on anyone that may be interested. I'm selling my Powershot A85 on ebay. It's been a great camera, and I've only owned it for about 6 months. And as a thanks to DPChallenge members who have helped me with many tips and advice, mention you saw it on DPC after you buy it and get free shipping! All the pics in my portfolio on here were taken with that camera. Thanks for looking. Here's the link:

I'm confused, did you get a new one? are you just giving up? if so don't give up every shot makes you better...
this makes me hurt inside |

I ordered a Rebel XT. Just getting started :)
This would make a good starting camera for someone, or a good pocket lugger for those times a DSLR isn't very practical.

Well unless you absolutely need the money from the sale, consider keeping your 85. You aren't going to want to carry the Rebel around everywhere. Sometimes it's nice to have a compact camera. And sometimes it's nice to have a camera that can shoot at F3.5 and have almost 100% depth of field.
Each is a tool with it's own uses!

I probably shouldn't admit it, but I absolutely need the money. I don't care to mention I'm broke. The Rebel XT brought my bank account down to <$50, so to purchase it I knew I would not only have to list my current camera on Ebay, but also make it a 3 day auction. Haha. IBKC = Poor college student

Don't be too proud to admit that you only have a little money. There is nothing wrong with you. We all have our circumstances. Going through college is never a good time financially unless you are rich to begin with.
Making sacrifices to become a better photographer and take more pictures is hardly shameful.
Consider heading down to the local pro canon store, opening your empty camera bag up on the ground and making a big cardboard sign that says:
"Will MuDWrEsTlE for Canon L series lenses." |

Haha... great idea! I would actually mudwrestle for an L series. I got a job as a co-op student at a nuclear plant that pays pretty well, but I've only been working there a couple weeks and don't get paid for another 2. I'm a senior in chemical engineering, so hopefully I'll be able to find a job when I get out and be able to support my photography that's breaking me right now. BTW, my camera bag is an old wal-mart backpack I bought when I was a senior in high school that serves as my camera bag, backpack for school, and suitcase when I go places for only a couple days. I'm hardcore like that. Haha.

Good for you! I bought my (small) camera bag at a local secondhand store for $2. The other good news is that your old pack won't look like it has a valuable camera in it. |
