I did some senior portraits of a young lady this past weekend. Her mom just came to pick up the CD with the proofs. As the CD cover, I had put 5 photos of her in a collage type arrangement with "Vanessa '06" on the front. From my earlier posts about the shoot, it's evident that I really wish some things had been done differently and the photos were okay, but I didn't think great.
Her mom took one look at the five on the front cover and her eyes teared up. "They're just beautiful! That's my baby!" I had them online here and the father had already seen those and had called the mom raving about them.
I know they can't afford to order too many prints (which they are doing through me), but I tell ya....when the mom's eyes teared up looking at the photos of her daughter - THAT'S why I enjoy portraits. We're not talking a gorgeous super model here...just a nice young woman.
I'm hard on myself because I want to keep improving and I hope to get better and learn more, but I just wanted to share my "high" for the afternoon! I charged just $50.00 for the sitting but I got my payment by seeing the mom's reaction! :) From what she said they would likely order, I'll probably make another $150 or so on prints, so I'm happy too! |

congratulations. I used to work doing document creation or photo alterations for customers and would get such a "high" when a customer was excited about their finished product. I love giving them more than they expected or asked for. Too bad my other coworkers didn't follow this type of joy and made it too hard for me to work there.
again congratulations
