I have a collection of travel-images, and I want to make a Slideshow(autorun)CD. Does it require a special software?
Can it be downloaded free?

Just check how the make a current auto-run CD...browse the CD. I believe there is just a file that windows check for called 'autorun.inf' and all you would have to do is add that and tell windows where to find the file...although you may not be able to say like "movie.wmv" you may have to say like "mediaplayer.exe movie.wmv" or something you know?

If you are running Windows on a PC ( as opposed to a Mac/OS ), then download Microsoft's Power Toys for Windows XP ( backward compatible for Windows 9.x, as well ). The Power Toys includes a nice autorun slide show generator that get's installed when you create a CD full of .JPG images ( if you so desire - you will be promtped ).
Find it here

ProShow Gold will do it. It is at //www.photodex.com. I think they have a trial offer.

Can anyone help?

The quickest slideshow with music I've done (for real nice results) was with ACDSEE.

Lot's of options, and doesn't look powerpointy.

How much control over creating the slide show do you want? I get a real plain and simple one when I copy my images to a cd by just opening windows explorer and dragging the images to the CD drive. Then right click on the CD drive and say Write Files to CD.

You should get a window that pops up asking to name it, then it should ask if you want a picture viewer on it. Say yes and it should kick the disc out when done. If you put it back in it should auto run and ask the slide interval you want. If your CD's don't auto run when you insert them, you need to check some other settings on your system.

Good luck

I just "installed it" and when I want to create a SlideShow CD, I just "drag and drop" photos to the CD Drive. When I select File, Create, the PowerToy prompts me and asks if I want to create a Slideshow? If I say Yes, it does.

This one absolutely rules. They have a place on their website where you can post your slide shows and they have contests.. somewhat like DPC for slides. Check out what you can do with the program at the address above. They do have a trial version. I've made several shows for birthdays, family reunions, new babies, vacations etc with my photos and everyone loves them.

You not only can make an autorun cd for your computer, but you can make an auto run DVD for your TV.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Muvee AutoProducer is pretty awesome and easy to use and you can save it in a variety of formats. Lets you pick the pictures + video + music and it can auto-magically produce a video slideshow that looks like it was made with some form of intelligence. Most other packages like the MS powertools one or the Nero one, you kind of have to decide where to put what and when. That's fine if you're into that sort of thing, but I'd rather be taking pictures ;) Muvee AutoProducer can make decisions for you. If you don't like a particular element you can edit and redo before committing your changes. It really is that simple.

Try Google Picasa
Google Downloads

Makes a pretty good gift / slideshow CD for PC users and better still it's completely free. As an added bonus it's a rather good image organiser for non-pros if you don't have iMatch or CS2.

Any tips for making slideshows more effective? How can I make an Intro-page, which should also contain a link for starting the Slideshow? I am using ACDsee8.
