I am not sure why people insist on putting animals and landscapes in a challenge titled portrait???? AM I just not thinking out of my little box? I even checked a dictionary or 3 to determine that portraits are of people. HMMMMM... if there was a "pet" challenge could I enter a picture of my Car because it is my pet? ARRRRGH! or how about for the "at the zoo" challenge could I have posted a pic of a branch because a bird sits on one at the zoo? Am I being too sensitive? I am sure you all will let me know.

I think animal prortraits are exceptable for this challenge, as long as they show the face like a regular people portrait. There are many pet portographers doing pet portraits, they also make alot of money, some more than wedding/studio portrait photographers. Who was the guy who photographer his weimereiners in various acts, dressed like humans?

you know how when you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail?

I think when you're a duck photographer, every challenge looks like a duck challenge

When you love shooting flowers most, every challenge is a floral challenge

And now, every challenge is turning into a woman with a towel around her head staring demurely at the camera challenge

Not that I've noticed - :-)

Guess people just gotta be true to themselves no matter what. What used to make me crazy, now earns my respect.

Thank you Doug,

That may just be what I needed to read.

Since you started this thread I'm guessing that you also received kind of a nastygram because of your comments on a certain zoo animal photo! I thought this site was suppose to be about having fun and not about sending snippity PM because you don't like the comments (which were not at all rude).

A thesaurus is also our friend:

Main Entry: portrait
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: representation
Synonyms: account, characterization, depiction, description, figure, image, likeness, model, painting, photograph, picture, portraiture, portrayal, profile, silhouette, simulacrum, sketch, snapshot, spitting image, vignette

...all of these can apply to so much more than just "people"...words can be so much fun. : }

Not sure about landscapes but you can take portraits of animals. There are even professional animal portraiture photographers out there. So if people can get paid taking animal portraits then I would think they would be ok to enter in an online photography competition.
