I am looking for a website that allows a person to post pictures in online albums for free. There are a lot of sites that do this.

I currently use Yahoo (my favorite) and Picturetrail. I have also tried ImageTank and another which I have completely forgotten.

My desires include:

Sensible layout and ease of use (particularly for the end-user)
Useful Slide show mode.
Reasonable amount of space
No limit on number of pictures per album.

***800x600 basic image display size.
Viewable panoramics.

Once I have found a site that provides a useful and well-thought out service, i will consider paying for an account. I haven't been more than 80% satisfied with any of the current setups I have seen though.

The picturetrail is pretty good, but they have a bit of an awkward layout and slideshow, and they limit the number of photos you can have after a month of free use, but don't tell you how much space you have left. They also limit the number of photos per album and limit the maximum number of pixels so really wide pano's are impossible. Web-a-photo had unlimited sizes for panos but had other issues.

I would like to try some others out. Any suggestions?

It must be able to display 800x600. Yahoo is good enough for below that.

Smugmug. It's great and offers unlimited storage for a mere $30/year. I love it.

See my sig to save $5.

I am in the process of going through this as well and have reached the following decisions.

I am going to have my own domain name and use a general web hosting site. The reasons for this instead of using a commercial photo hosting site such as smugmug or pbase is simple. Once I create the pages and upload them, I own and control the pages not not just the actual prints. Smugmug and Pbase (and DPC for that matter) can change the rules, cancel my contract, and even go out of business at any time. In that case all of your work disappears and you are left with just the images somewhere on your catalogue.

I have selected a domain name and hosting company and am going to use pixelpost for my blog and coppermine for my portfolio. Its more work but I own everything. Yes the hosting company can tank but then I would only need to engage an new hosting company (as I own the domain name) and upload pages that are kept on my computer.

Really nice with smugsmug. I was hoping for something more than a week to try. I might go with it. Nice layout.

Photodude, I don't have the time to much about with my own domain or website. I just want to upload some pics now and again that I can keep online for others to view or for me to access at other locations.

anyone use their professional site for selling? i chatted with butterfly
but she uses the basic. i have a domain name that I could use with the professional version. I hope I am not breaking any rules here at DP by talking about this. If I am...let me know and I will stop.

Greetings,
I use Smug's pro side, the sales transactions are silky smooth and for the most part the customer service is good, everynow and then you get an idiot, but hey thats customer service everywhere, I'm about to renew for my 2nd year with them so I must br happy, and yes I do like your thinking of with my own domain fowarded to them.
