Hi, the local ambulance department is trying to decide on a paint scheme for their ambulance. They are thinking of something along the lines of this....
What they want is a red strip (which I've added). They also want to see what it would look like with the body of the ambulance (below the stripe) fire engine red. I can't figure out how to make the lower portion that color without killing the texture of the ambulance (I do NOT have PS).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

Well - if anyone else wants to try.. I think the way to do this would be to create another layer and use Color blending mode and just paint over it.. but my results aren't really coming out properly (for some reason the red always comes out kinda faint and pinkish rather than the color I choose).

Cut a new level out of the part that needs painting.
Make a pure red level so the stack is cutout, background, colour.
Set the cutout blending mode to colour.
Adjust opacity to taste.
merge red and cutout and adjust contrast, hue saturation.
Flatten the image.
I'm sure there's faster ways, but this works for me. |

The op doesn't have PS, and I have to leave to study for a final tomorrow.. perhaps someone can give it a try?

Coincidentally, I know someone who works (worked?) in Lancaster for an ambulance comapny - but I don't think this was it.

Is this what you meant? Like my 5 y.o. daughter, I think that trying to keep my colouring within the lines is over-rated.....
(used red painted layer 'multiplied' over original in PS)
or maybe this...
....or maybe not.

LOL, Yeah. it does look kind of like a U-Haul truck.
Thanks a bunch though. They really liked it, and now they want me to try it with another color scheme. All red, except the top part of the cab black. Sooner or later I need to get PS. |

Ambulances shouldn't be red anyway. No emergency vehicle should be; it's like the first color to disappear in the dark. That's why so many firetrucks are going with a flourescent limey-yellow; it works really well for visibility in the dark.
An all-red ambulance with a black cab strikes me as fairly absurd...
Robt.

FAIRLY???? I think it's absolutely stupid.
I keep telling them to keep them white. The reason they were asking about the red is because they were thinking of making the ambulances match the fire trucks. Stupid I know.
As for fire trucks I'm more used to the Airport Crash trucks than structural trucks. This is my baby from my time in the Air Force....

Why not have it all BLACK with a red-stripe... admittedly it might not be that visiable, but it'll look really cool!
As long as there is room for an acetylene torch in the back...

Some I've seen in our area have the red stripe but instead of it being just straight like that the whole way back, it actually looks like the heart monitor line (with the up and down spikes) towards the rear. Sort of like the yellow one here....

I like the heart monitor line. It just looks cool.
Black would look....goofy. They doo sell black 3M scotchlite. Think an ambulance completely covered in Scotchlite would look cool? |
