What's the cheapest way to get Photoshop CS2?

I heard a while back that Canon Dslr owners could upgrade their Adobe Elements to Photoshop through a special site. Can somebody show me the link?

What about buying an older version of PS (say 5.0 or 6.0) and doing the upgrade instead of getting the full version? I know you can get older versions on Ebay for next to nothing.
Anybody have any advice on this?

Thanks.

I would not buy an "older version" unless it's still sealed in factory packaging. There's too high a chance it's been previously registered, and getting an upgrade will likely be a huge hassle, if possible at all.

Possibly the cheapest way to get a legitimate version if you've never owned it is to register at an accredited educational institution (like a community college) -- with your student ID you should be able to purchase an "Educational Version" at a considerable discount. I'd check with Adobe and/or a retailer (e.g. CompUSA) for details on that.

Or, if you can upgrade from Elements, do that : )

What about something like this?

//cgi.ebay.ca/Adobe-Photoshop-9-CS-2-CS2-Creative-Suite-WINDOWS_W0QQitemZ7181527620QQcategoryZ182QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

or this one (claims older version is factory sealed):
//cgi.ebay.ca/Adobe-Photoshop-CS2-FOR-WINDOWS-NEW-FULL-VERSION-CS-2_W0QQitemZ7181746191QQcategoryZ86732QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Is it just a big scam?

Why take a chance? I don't think the full retail price isn't that much more -- and this price will likely go up in the moments before the auction closes. If it is bogus, the aggravation you will encounter will almost certainly outweigh the relatively small financial benefit.

A lot of "savings" we think we get are more than made up for in other ways. It's not worth driving 4 miles out of the way to save a couple of dollars on gas or groceries. Mail-order items are often no cheaper when shipping's figured in, not to mention the benefit of being able to walk into the store and tell the person who sold you something what's wrong (or right) with it -- I bought my camera for maybe 20 bucks more than the mail order price at a store less than two miles away.

There are legitimate sellers of older versions on ebay. A long time ago, I bought version 4.0 on ebay, then upgraded to 7.0 through Adobe.
Just be sure the previous version you are getting is legit and previously unregistered, and that the particular version you're getting is in the "upgradeable" range for CS.

Edit:
The educational software route is another way to go, if you or an imediate family member is a student. there was in fact an upgrade offer for recent Canon buyers earlier in the year, I have no ide whether this is still goin' on or not.

Current offers are for

Registered Photoshop Owners (Version 4 and up) $149

Registered Elements Owners: $499

My guess is that the Educational version will be about $249, but you'll have to check with a retailer. See if this link provides more details:

I see you have the Canon 20D, with that you probably got the photo elements 2.0. Just call adobe and ask them what kind of deal you can get the lastest vesion of photoshop at since you have elements. Then tell them that you will have to think about it as it will be offered to you at about $495. After about a month, if you are lucky as I was, you will get a coupon in the mail for photoshop for about $299. That is what I did. The thing is too with a used version they will not give you the free one year training and you will not be able to register it. This way you get it all. Hope it works out for you too.

Ever wonder how people that have camera's that cost under $500.00 have a software program thats costs more, lol?
Lets be honest people, its readily available if you have no ethics.
I'm not promoting this, but its a fact of life..

Thanks. That's the link I'd seen in the past. Probably the best deal and safest way to get the full version.

This is what i used. I had to work at it a bit to make it work though. It didn't work buying through the net so i had to call them and argue with them a little bit saying that that offer WAS indeed valid. In in the i got the program.

I had the same problem to start. I didn't have Elements installed or registered. Once I did that though everything went through fine.

What are normal wait times in Canada for deivery of this offer? Anyone have experience with this?

I just used the elements upgrade a couple of weeks ago. Ordered on Friday, delivered on Monday! (Ottawa area)
Big problem now.....besides a steep learning curve...really slows my pc down. Need to get more memory.

I ordered mine late Thurs. I'm sure I'll take a couple of extra days to get here to Newfoundland. Thanks.

After waiting a full week, I called Adobe to see what the hangup was with my order. Apparently, it failed. For some reason, their system didn't pick up the failure and automatically notify me as it's supposed to. To anyone else who plans on ordering online, call their toll free line after you have placed your order, so that you don't end up waiting an extra week needlessly.
