//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8218240488

Seriously.. I could buy a set of alien bees or a 70-200mm f/4L with that amount. And looking at the way things are selling, the price will rise even higher.

Ahahahaaa, if I'm correct, then that's a part for a computer game? Not even a whole game!

Oh dear, I suppose there's worse things you could spend your money on, but still!

... Hahaha

I don't play role game so I'm confused of how this would work. Do they transfer you a backup file or something that you can re-upload into your system or give you a god or something?

I thought you could only sell actually tangible items on ebay...weird.

Guy in Australia bought an air guitar on eBay. It's true. He said he didn't mind that it had no case, but the seller had failed to point out that it was left handed!

Runescape is an online game (it runs in Java) - They either arrange to meet your character somewhere on one of the runscape worlds and give you the item, or if they're selling a character they give you the name and password.

There's quite an economy springing up of people selling online items for real-world cash.

Diablo II (started 2001) is now a multi-million dollar industry of selling items on-line that don't exist.

Preying on the lazy gamer that don't really want to (or can't) play the game through as designed.

Yeah, but who says they really have to play the game as designed to enjoy it? This kind of bartering is not surprising to me at all. If people are willing to pay in excess of $1000 for season tickets to a pro franchise sports team (a similar virtual experience, in that all you keep is the personal memory and experience of the events), why wouldn't others be willing to pay a similar value for something that interests them more than sports?

I have not bought virtual items for a game, but I understand why people would. There are certain elements to these types of games that sometimes require a substantial amount of "grinding" or non-challenging play in order to accumulate the virtual wealth necessary to either buy an item or acquire some sort of goods necessary to move forward in the game. Some people are willing to pay actual cash to avoid this kind of grinding. More power to them. Me, I need other things more than virtual gold :-)

I definitely do not see it as taking advantage of someone who purchases these items, or virtual gold, or what not. It's their money, after all.

heh, your comparing having the ability to turn more people into frogs, or something like that to having season tickets to your favorite nfl team?
im not convinced

Nobody says you have to be convinced. That's the point. The person doing the buying is the only one who has to be convinced of the value of what they are getting.

Isn't that true of everything you buy? That's why auctions are such fun! You put your own limit on what you are prepared to buy and bid up to that ( unless you get carried away which is not to be advised!)

We moved from a small country cottage to a 6 bedroomed, four receptioned, four storey Victorian house. All our furniture could have fitted into two rooms of the new house and we didn't have much spare cash. We visited some aution rooms locally and picked up some real bargains and had a lot of fun. Somepeople's throwaways are other's wants and it means things are recycled instead of filling up dumps.

i've bought and sold online game items before. If i'm playing the game anyway, and having fun, why not sell my stuff if people are willing to buy? If you're playing games with over a million players... there's a good chance somebody will buy :-)
