Has anybody checked the new Kodak easyshare c340 (5MP)?
I am trying to buy a new cam for my friend, and was wondering which is a good buy, the C340 or the Canon A520 which is a few bucks more expensive and also 1 MP less (4 MP).
But anybody with first hand exp. please advice...

All I can say is that I love my A510. And in terms of noise it's much better than the A520.
But they're both great little camera's, they feel right, and the manual settings are reasonably easy to get to.

I have no idea about the Kodak.

Pricegrabber Digital Cameras between $150 and $200

The link is to pricegrabber for all digital cameras between $150 - $200... I would probably not buy either of those in that price range but rather select the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 Digital Camera (5.0MP, 2560x1920, 6x Opt, 14MB Internal Memory) or the Fuji FinePix A350 Digital Camera (5.2MP, 2592x1944, 3x Opt, 16MB xD-Picture Card).

Of course, this is just my opinion... if you are set on choosing between the Canon & Kodak, select the Canon.

Thanx, I'll look into the Fuji, but in the reviews I am reading Kodak and Canon are always placed higher than Fuji. That was why I was only searching for those two.

I just spent an absurd amount of time researching low-end cameras (all brands) for my au pair earlier this week. We narrowed the low-end down to the Powershot A510 (lower resolution than the 520, but less noise and slightly faster performance), PowerShot A410 (less zoom than the A510, but only $139 and includes the Digic II processor), and PowerShot S60 (superior to any of these for $186, but larger and not as "pretty"). To be fair, we didn't check the Lumix DMC-LZ2.

In the end, we probably went beyond your budget to get a Fuji FinePix F10 ($286). That's quite a bit more money, but it buys you a very small camera with 6.3 megapixels and 3x zoom, extremely low noise (actually clean to ISO 800!), 1.3 second startup times and 0.01 second shutter lag (both comparable to a DSLR), a 2.5" LCD, and VGA movies at 30fps. Frankly, that's just amazing for the price.

I have always noticed that Fuji seems to produce richer colors than any other company... just my experience, but I have also seen reviews that say the same thing. Of course, I owned the S7000 and currently own both the E550 and the S5100, both of which I would recommend if you can spend up to $250.
