I am considering purchasing the sigma EF 500 DC flash. It seems quite similar to the cannon speedlite 550. Any one have any input or experience with the sigma?

I have the Sigma EF 500 DG Super, don't know if that's the same one. I love it and I'm glad I didn't spend the extra money on the Canon flash.

I also have the Sigma EF 500 DG Super, I highly recommend it. it is not as sturdy as the speed light but still well built and has alot more functionality.

Are there any Nikon users out there who also have this flash? I'm in the market for a new flash.....

Make sure you are looking at the super rather than the straight DG, different animals. It is a flexible but not very durrable flash. While I like my Sigma flash it is pretty obvious if you use both the Canon product and the Sigma where Canon put the extra money they charge, it is more robust and requires less attention to put and keep the setting where you want them. That said I would rather have two Sigmas than the one Canon for the same money.
