I need to upgrade my printer so that I can start publishing from home. Nothing high volume, but I would like to be able to print up 8x10's or 8x12's. I need suggestions from people who have good printers for this type of work. Nothing too expensive, but nothing too cheap either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have a feeling you are going to get at least one recommendation for an R800 for printing quality at that size. In a recent thread there were at least a few strong supporters of that model, which is not too expensive.
I have the R1800, the wider carriage version of the same printer (they use the exact same inks sets), and I like it a lot. |

Rich nailed it on the head. I'll be the first to suggest the Epson R800...I love mine!

I got the Epson R200 last year and it printed beautifully for about 6 months. Now the settings change on their own and I have to adjust it for each picture so that it prints what I see on the screen (and it still doesn't) and basically now it prints like crap. I'm printing for myself, and I realize it's the lowest model of the series and they don't even SELL it anymore, but did anyone else have this same experience?

Denis,
I have had an Epson R1800 for a couple of months now and it is wonderful, the quality is great and is capable of up to 13" wide paper.

yep, get the R800 you will find lots of great review on it and it. I really wanted to buy a canon printed but was persuaded to epson because of their archival inks. It prints fast and very nice. This is the printer I use. however if you have more $$ go with the R1800 same printer as the R800 just A3 instead of A4 |

Yeah, but it only does teensy prints. That's no good. Need bigger.

I've got the Epson r320, and it prints beautiful images. Haven't ever done 8x12s, but that is because I don't have that paper. Amazing 8x10s though. Got it for $200. |

I just bought one of these last week, too. So far, so good! I like the CD printing feature, too. It'll lend a nice touch to CDs I send out.

I as so recommend the Epson R800. I have owned/used several different printers (Cannon, Epson, HP) and found that for the price the R800 cannot be beat. If your budjet is a little lower the R300 or for a bargin basement price the R200. (can not comment on the R320.) Warning the replacement ink cartriges will cost as much or more than the printer. (this is true with most ink jet printers) |

Another vote for the R1800. I have a R300 for day to day work and the R1800 is my go to guy for final prints. Outstanding quality for the price. Most places have it priced around $549.00.
Also, it is worth mentioning that the Epson provided ICC profiles for this printer are very good. I have not had to get out my Pantone calibration kit for this printer yet.
The other attractive thing is the gloss optimizer - with my R300, white areas on the prints show up as places that lack ink and it stands out. The gloss optimizer coats the entire print to even out the surface and therefore creates a very even, durable, surface.
Without a doubt - the R1800 is a damn good printer. |

Yes, the r1800 is a great printer. it has great reviews, i dont know how to explain it, but what normal printers print in a DOT. the r1800 prints 3 DOTS in one normal printer DOT. i forgot the termonaligy.
