Hello Guys,

I got another letter from a UK digital magazine making an offer to have my work published. Is this magazine, "What Digital Camera", legitimate. My guess is that they have seen my work in Digital Photo magazine. The payment offer is smaller than the Digital Photo but my pictures are all sitting in my computer anyway so, I don't really care about the rate. Here's the letter:
Any advice? Suggestion? Comment?

"Hi Manny,

I love your photos. I'm the editor of What Digital Camera (UK) and would like
to publish a selection of 5-6 of them in the magazine. If you're in agreement
I can email you thumbnails of the shots we'd like and you can email the hi-
res versions to me, or upload them to our ftp site or send them on a CD, but
we need them by the end of next week (22nd September). There would be a
small payent of around $100.  Someone would need to call you to conduct a
short nterview with you, or it could be done by email (phone is better
though).
You can visit our website at //www.whatdigitalcamera.com for more
information about us.

Regards,

Nigel (nigel_atherton@ipcmedia.com)"

Manny, i'm not sure if the magazine is legit or not from their website they appear to be you might ask what their circ rate is that will tell you alot - but I wanted to congratulate you on being published. Your work inspires me to do better with subject lighting and capturing emotion. Thanks, Michele

I'd personally be tempted to target some of the better UK photo magazines... you may find it harder to be published by them if you have too much exposure.

I've seen the magazine on shelves, never really bought it. My opinion, if your photos are just sitting there, doing nothing, why not?

Hi Bob,

What are the "better" UK digital photo magazines? Actually, right now, I feel like a blind "beggar". I accept whatever is offered to me. I am nobody. I am not making any cent from my photography. This is just a hobby for me. Maybe this is a good exposure?

I never initiate the sending of my pictures to magazines. Digital Photo magazine wrote an email to me offering to publish 2 of my shots they saw at pbase. And now, this magazine. I feel elated.

Thanks for the suggestion Bob.

Manny

`What Digital Camera magazine` is one of, if not the biggest digital camera mag in the UK.
I can`t believe you have to think about this.
Do it now!

This has a big circulation - not a "serious" magazine as in art-quality, or pro-dedicated, but it is a quality, widely read magazine aimed at amateurs. I am sure that there is nothing in here that could hurt your reputation.

Good luck!

Thanks for the information. I asked them about copyright, etc. I have to wait for an answer before deciding.:)

I'm not saying it would be a bad thing, and it does have a huge readership but I would personally target the better quality mags aimed at pros. I'll look into this, as I'm thinking about sending my portfolio to some mags now I've got some good stuff over the summer.
