Practice, practice, practice. Buy a few books on basic photography. Study the pictures you like on DPChallenge. Experiment alot with your camera's functions. Not much help, I know, but you'll find yourself getting better every day. Keep on plugging away, big guy. Even a schmuck like me can get a ribbon. :) Good luck and have fun!

I bought a book called "Learning to see creatively" by Bryan Peterson and its a really good book and has helped me a little (and i do mean a little). But im trying
also try taking pics from a bug's eye view(way low to the ground)....or a birds eye view (camera above 6 feet) instead of the "normmal eye height"

I'm get my creativity from good drugs. Lol, don't touch the stuff, but a couple glasses of wine don't hurt. I'm still in the experimental stage of photography, so I try different effects every time.

Something you may want to try. A while back there was a thread in the forums where several folks took an ordinary everyday subject like an egg, a fork, or a hammer and then shot it from every imaginable way. Different lighting, different set ups and angles, etc. It may be a way to make you look at things differently than you normally would.
