Awhile back, someone from DPC (I think in chat) showed me some software that would tell you which programs were tying up which files so that they couldn't be deleted. My laptop loves to act like certain files are permanently tied up when they aren't being used and now some Limewire remnants are doing special things. ctl+alt+delete has decided to cease working. Anyone know what this program was?

what O/S are you using??? If you manage to get your task manager open see if dumprep is running in the processes tab. If so close it/end task and your machine should free itself up.

I'm using Windows XP Professional. I can't get the task manager to open because ctrl+alt+delete won't work - is there another way to bring it up?

ctrl shift esc brings it up too, I beleive the program your looking for for file usage is "handle" by sysinternal freeware:

right click on the taskbar and choose task manager or go tto Run and type taskmgr, then hit enter and you have it.

Okay, scrap all that. Genius that I am, I let my virus protection expire and THEN I downloaded stuff from Limewire. Brilliant! So I got exactly what I deserved in the form of a big fat trojan horse. This accounts for the task manager being disabled, as well as the rest of the junk that was going on. So now it's all fixed and I'm good to go. Thanks for the suggestions!

If you're gonna play around, ya gotta use protection.

Should be all better once that burning sensation goes away.
