Hello, and thank you for those who sent mails to me asking if i was OK. I have just returned from the worse 3 months of my life and I feel like i should be dead..

28th June I was arrested by customs officers in Japan because somebody had sent a parcel to my address (not my name) containing a quantity of canabis, I had nothing to do with it nor do I have any knowledge about such a things but I was sent to prisont to await trials and tests and I was interogated. I have never been arrested before in my life and it was very frightening. The whole thing lasted 3 months I was released UNCHARGED Sept 9th. I returned home to my house to find that I had been robbed and lost 7 guitars including a Martin, Gibson LP, etc etc.

Lucky for me, after my arrest, my wonderfull wife-to-be had taken my camera and my Mac lappy out of the house and back to her parents where I am now living and trying to get over the shock of what has happened to me..

I just wanted to let everyone know why I have not been around and to say thank you for the concern shown..

I renewed my membership and now Im off out for a walk to take some photos and to try to forget the horrors of the last 3 months. It goes to prove that even if you do nothing to break the laws the nightmare can still get you.. I am still very scared but I will slowly get used to my new situation.

Now on with the next challenge in my life COLOR PORTRAIT!!!

Damn! Those are some tough breaks. My heart goes out to you. I'm going to send you a huge dose of positive energy.

Can you check with local guitar shops and online to see if your guitars turn up? I'm hoping you can get them back. It almost sounds as though someone has it out for you. Be Careful!

Welcome back. That sounds horrible. There is really something to be said for innocent until proven guilty...

Yes, welcome back. I had wondered where you were.

I am so sorry to hear about your harrowing experience. A lot of people when faced with adversity, rise from it and appreciate the joy of life so much more and that is what I wish for you. Whilst you did not belong in jail, the people who stole from you do and I hope they find the guilty parties soon. Best wishes to you. Good luck with the portrait entry!

Isn't there some kind of legal action that can be taken here? False arrest or something.

That might be the case in the states. Asian countries tend to be more strict when comes to drugs. Possession in some asian countries (if not all) carries the death penalty.

Marac, I'm glad you came out of this one uncharged.

Firstly thanks everyone .. about the legal system here, the fact that the parcel was sent to MY address and was sent from ENGLAND (I am english) that was enough for them to give me a hell time.

very happy to be out and I even managed to take a nice portrait for the challenge...

When you are on the bottom of life, the only way is UP ...

Cheers!

Re" false arrest, I'm no expert on the Japanese legal system but I do know their "modern" system was originally based on German and french law, and after WWII it was modified in some respects based on American law. American law derives from British common law, and French law is based on the Napoleonic code. In "our" system, you cannot be held for any length of time without probable cause, and "our" system has the burden of proof on the prosecution. In Napoleonic law this is not the case; it is possible to hold suspects almost indefinitely while an investigation is ongoing. I'd suspect this has some bearing on the issue here...

Another place where stuff like this can (and often does) happen is in Mexico.

Robt.
