Newbie...question: In advanced editing could I use the cloning to darken an area to black that would blend in the with background of my picture..or would that be considered "creating/adding" something that wasn't there. Specifically there is a body part in the shot that I believe is distracting...since I have a black background I can easily clone it out...or can I???? |

You are in a "grey area" (pun intended) where the editing technique is legal, but the results may or may not be, depending on the collective opinion of the SC members who evaluate it -- it is a judgement call whether what you've done constitutes removal of a "major element" or a "minor distraction."
You can get an informal advance opinion by posting the before/after photos in your Workshop folder in your portfolio, where they'll be hidden from people browsing the site, and email links to them to several SC memebers. This wouldn't guarantee how an actual vote would go, but should give you enough of a clue to decide if you want to chance entering it. |

yes I would adhere to the General's advice, because I have seen people get DQ'd, and be mad as hell about doing the same thing you might do. I think the minor imperfection thing constitutes, like a wart on somebody's forehead or something, but if you go into taking something out that existed before, even if it is no more than say 5% I bet it gets throwed out. |

Where would I get a SC list to email the link?

yeah you would prob need sc to determine if that body part constitutes a moajor element or not. |

I am waiting for a reply. I don't think it is going to be some awesome shot, but the image IMO is better with this area removed. We are talking about less than 3% of the shot and it is at the bottom edge. We'll see. Just want to err on the safe side. |

Sent you a note, but now I have to go out for a few hours, so any follow-up will be subject to delay : ) |
