Hmm.. just wanted to rant about the slow server. I wasn't able to finish my voting yesterday evening because I always got the "Network is busy" error :-(
Is it just me or do others also have this problem?
If there is too much traffic... I think it would be ok to limit the file size of the images to 100 kB instead of 150 kB. |

I have yet to ever have any trouble with the website, at home or at work...which tends to make me not want to make the size limit smaller. However if it is overriding with others then I suppose. |

I have only had some trouble the last few days now and then... and I have a cable connection. I think D&L have been working on the site?

Ive been getting Network busy messages too. This is down to too much load on the server - which is not surprising since this is a great site and is no doubt busy.
If you had to place some banner ads on the site to help pay for hosting I for one would click on them. But please no pop-ups.

I think that the speed is very time of day dependent. I seem to always get slow response on Mon am ( like now) when everyone is checking the final results and new submissions. I also get slow response on Sun night - last minute votes and submissions. I don't think changing the file size would have a big enough effect during the heavy load period to make it worth it - but it will help.

We're definitely aware of the problem. I e-mailed our host last night, and they say they've made some changes to hopefully help (or fix?) the problem. We'll see how that goes...

Does any of the following make a difference ? Distance from router PC or MAC The reason I ask this is that my MAC is having major problems with the pages loading, busy server messages, etc., but the PC which is much closer to the router (shorter cable) is having much less. |

You can do a tracert to our site, but I don't think that's it. I don't know a lot about Network Protocol, but I think the server definitely had some settings wrong. Images and style sheets were timing out way too fast, and we were getting these "network is busy" errors even when there were only 15 or so people on the site.
Has you guys still been having problems today?

Seems a bit better Drew. I was here at 4 a.m. my time and it was very slow, now at 8:45 a.m. it's better. Yesterday...Yuck. |

better, I'm on a pc here at work, with dialup, but the forums are loading better. No busy server messages so far either. I don't have the problem here either, with being frozen after several votes, that I have at home. |

We have 3 computers networked,(all PCs though), and they all seem to load equally well,(or poorly). We've never noticed that the one closest to the router is any quicker than the other two.
Also - I haven't had any problems with dpc being slow today. |

I'm still having extreme difficulties. It took about a minute and a half for the page to post this to appear. We'll see if it goes through when I'm done. Every forum page (even if I use the back button) is taking this long or longer to load. I haven't tried the rest of the site, but this is too frustrating to use. I think I am going to have to come back in a few days and hope things are better. I wish there some way to check on your score without resetting the "recent" mark on all the forum threads. :-(

Drew --
Can the page listing current comments be made to pop up in a separate window and have the current score under the thumbnail? Folks can leave that window open and refresh their score/comments as often as desired (every 5 seconds?) while voting or cruising the forums in the main window.

Was much faster for me today but then again it's Tuesday - not Monday.
