I just purchased my first Macro lens (finally!) and would like to know the technique involved with reversing a 50mm lens on the front of it. What is needed to buy, what to do, any special pointers, etc.
Thanks!

a macro coupler
It's hard, don't be discouraged. The depth of field is very shallow. You're gonna need an external flash as well. |

Here's a link to another thread that I've been saving in my watched threads so that I can do this someday, too. |

The reversed 50mm trick does not require a macro lens! It is a trick that is used for macro photography when you haven't got a macro lens already (though I am sure that it will still work with a macro lens).
Simply hold a lens, back to front, in front of your existing lens. Ideally, use a reversing ring (a ring with a thread on both sides) to attach the reversed lens to the front of the lens on your camera. Be amazed by the magnification, and the massively shallow DoF. Can be done with a variety of lenses. Old lenses with manual adjustment for Av are good as the reversed lens, because you can ope them up to get a bigger viewing area with more light.

granted my camera isnt as fancy or as costly as your(nor my lenses) but to do my super macro entry all i did was scotch tape it on the front of my "telephoto 2x" lens. they are really very tiny ponytail holders. just in case no one passes on a real idea i thought u might like a "homemade" idea
edit: lack of nicotine is affecting my brain today...sorry

Check out the equipment section in Lesson 4. There might be something in there for you to read up on...
