Am I correct in assuming that actions in Photoshop are ok to use as long they are applied to the entire photograph? |

It depends what steps are in the actions.

Some of the steps are: new layer, Gaussen blur, changing opacity, High pass, adding soft light and changing color levels in chanel mixer. Do you think all these steps will be ok? |

Any one in particular? There have been threads about particular actions and filters (such as Virtual Photographer).
My understanding (and I am only a layman, though I've been here a while now) is that if it does anything really resembling Advanced Editing (besides dust/scratch filters and NeatImage-type filters) then it is not legal. Any filter that makes layers with modes other than Normal is most likely illegal in Basic Editing.
Don't quote me on that though ;)

Gaussian blur/opacity changes are fine... but I'm not sure about the Soft Light mode. |

Using blending modes on adjustment layers in basic is illegal. |

Right. Remember that an "action" is merely a recorded series of steps. If any of the steps are illegal (for DPC), then the whole action is illegal, even if you have no specific control over the steps yourself. |

yeah, I dont know why, I thought it was just if you made selections within that action, didnt think blending modes was a problem. Thats ok, I just saw how many entries are in the challenge, and I dont think anyone will mind having one less to vote on! hehe Thanks for all your help. |
