How much did you pay? I'm considering one as a second body.
The 7D only seems to be about £100 more expensive though... I'm not sure a 5D would have survived a full cup of hot red wine being spilt on it... It would be nice to have a lighter camera though... tough choice! |

IMO opinion the Canon is a far superior camera. But it is also the photogrpaher and not the equipment but how many times have we all heard that?

Is your daughter single? Would you treat your son-in law the same? :)
But seriously, it is nice to see that people buy what suits them, instead of blindly following the crowd... IMHO, the Minolta AS system is quite underrated.

2: Canon Rebel XT = $800.00 (What I paid for mine)
Konica Minolta = $809.00
Of course when you get up that high in MP then it doesn't really matter but if you want to compare the two then here:
//kmpi.konicaminolta.us/eprise/main/kmpi/content/cam/cam_product_pages/Maxxum_5D?mDetail=Specifications
//consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelTechSpecsAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=11154
I am a Canon guy and I am going to be partial to Canon either way.

i will repeat myself for you to try to comprehend...
you CANNOT say the canon is better until you try them in same circumstance situations.... you SEEM to forget you need to pay a ton more to make the same picture better as teh 5D has image stabilizers built in and you have to pay a rediculous lot more for individual lens..

Why are you critizing what I stated was MY OPINION? No where did I say it was a proven fact.

When did I say I was a pro? I simply stated my OPINION and then posted two links for people to compare.

You could probably find it in one of the rant threads. If you find it, pass it along.

I have to agree with rex on this one. Not about the canon, but the fact that he said it was his opinion and not "I'm a pro and canon is the best and only way to go." We shouldn't be putting words in each others mouths. Now now, play nice ;) |

Each has their own opinion. You shouldn't be against anyone have their own opinion. This is an open forum and I can post my opinion. I post it and help out people by putting the links to the specifications for both so they can go make their own educated decision. That is your opinion. Many like Nikon but I don't badger them.

... the best camera for one person is not necessarily the best for another. I went with Canon since I already had a couple of Canon lenses and the Minolta hadn't been released yet. If I were to start from scratch I would be looking at all the options.
Also, just comparing specs will not give you enought information to determine what is best for you. (not directed at anyone in particular) Not everything that looks good on paper looks and feels good in person.
What feels the most comfortable in your hands is the one you will most likely be using.
