Ok guys and gals who has some good photos taken only by DPC members. No AP or other peoples photos, just yours. We would be interested in seeing how DPC photographers are building on the historical record of Katrina.

Here's a few I took of the first survivors arriving in San Antonio Texas on 3 Sept 05. Most are housed on the old Kelly AFB.

These are so telling. My heart just aches for them. I've donated and given money and I'm waiting in Austin to find a place to take more supplies for the refugees arriving here. At least they are dry and have a place to sleep and eat now.

Different stories here on how many folks are in San Antonio. Count goes up to as many as 20,000 or more so far. They are putting them head-to-feet on cots in warehouses at Kelly Base, the old Levi Strauss plant that closed a couple years ago and are looking at possible useing the Freeman Colliseum. Really touching was the old man with the torn and dirty pants hold the mediacl relief bag. So many in need.

Just thought I'd mention that one possible option for people wanting to donate "supplies" might be Walmart. We live in CA, far from Katrinas damage. We are still trying to help in the disaster relief by donating money and "supplies". We discovered yesterday that the local Walmart was accepting donations and they handed out a list of specifics. I'm not sure if all Walmarts are doing this but odds are good that many are I'm guessing. The list we used had items like diapers, wipes, personal hygiene products listed on it. We just went through Walmart and bought a bunch of wet wipes and shampoos, etc. and they had bins at the front to put them in. They take it all to where it is needed.
Not sure what helps the most or the fastest, either supplies or money, but figured we would just cover both bases and hopefully be a help to someone that needs it.
It pains me also to see what they have had to endure and continue to endure. I cannot look at stories of it or the stories of the people who are selflessly helping and volunteering without wanting to cry.

Anyways, just wanted to mention that in case there were people who may not have much to donate but would like to help in whatever way they can, this may be an option for them :) They also had a thing to donate money in, even change, my kids used that and even spent their own money on shampoo, etc. so the Walmart we went to had several options to make it easy to help, maybe yours does too?

The word here in San Antonio is some of the survivors are now starting to return to less impacted areas. Very few new people are arriving.
