| I was wondering what the weight capacity is for the ultrapod? Can it handle a 3 pound camera? |

If you are talking the plastic neon colors one, I doubt it. Mine might have been a Ultrapod II that I had for my Powershot S50. I tried a Powershot Pro1 (without any attachments) on it and it sure didn't feel safe. No P&Ser should be without one though...I used the velcro strap to hang the cam off some of the toughest areas to shot.

| The ultra pod is a piece of junk. I had the aluminum version and its just not stable. Its made to look cool thats it. If you are looking for a highly portable stable mini tripod check out the Bogen / manfrotto 3007, and its specs claim 4.4lbs. Personally I use it for ground level macros and it supports more than that. |

| I just bought an Ultrapod II yesterday. The instructions mention use with telephoto lenses and spotting scopes, so 3 pounds is probably (barely) within its limit. They say to not use it with a "full-sized" video camcorder though, so you may not be able to position a heavy camera with as much flexibility as a lighter camera. |

It's small, light, and cute, and only a little overpriced (retail about $15). I have to find something to use as a case for it, or I might look for a way to fasten it to the strap of my camera case. |

I have an UltraPod II tha tI used to use with my Nikon 995. It worked pretty well when used with a (homemade) release cord.
I later tried toting it along on a couple business trips to use as a "quick & dirty" stand for the 10D. I was not at all satisfied with the results. It has gone back to live with the 995 :-)

what kind of take-anywhere-anytime tripod would you suggest for a newbie? |
