I was wondering... does anybody ever do this? I've tryed at home and it works pretty well. The Nikon capture does a great job, and the image goes to the pc fast. But is this a practical way to work, outside youre home or studio? I'm thinking about wedding photos. I would love to have a wireless transmiter but the price is prohibitive for know.
So does anyone do this? Is it practical (I guess it would save the transfering process of the files). Is there a way that the photo also is witten in the CF card?
Please post youre thoughts and experiency.

I think there are bluetooth CF cards. Those should not be too expensive. But you'll always be limited in your moving around - flexibility goes down the drain.

I tested it out at home with my rebel works pretty good. I guess this is good for studio use or those people you see in malls that take your picture and you get a print right away on some funky background.

I know one (or two) of the new Coolpix models introduced today has built-in wifi, and wouldn't be suprised if the new D200 has it. |

Hope you're right about the D200. Any else with experience in this?

i think it will based on the word floating around wolfcam. but u can never be too sure of anything....
on another note the d70 won't dump as its taking will it?...u need to have a bluetooth adaptor for the cf slot don't u?
or did i miss something?
the d200 should have it they r calling it the little brother of the 2x and so it will share many of the same features just not as many high end features.....ie fps.....but its still going to be an awsome camera from what i've heard.

I didn't knew about the cf bluetooth thing. I was talking about the wifi conector, a kind of grip that is screwed like one. But I don't have the money for it! And the cord seems to work fine. Mobility will suck I know, but I was wondering if someone do it.

nothing wireless is going to be as fast and easy as having another CF card in your pocket. Or three. Modern CF storage capabilities are amazing.
shooting tethered to a laptop really is only feasible for a studio shoot where you are shooting and then checking the lighting, the make-up, the product, whatever.
Another option is getting a portable drive that has card slots in it.

I did a family day photo shoot at my church, taking photos of all the families, and shot tethered to the laptop, and the laptop to the printer - we printed on the spot. It worked great, it DID save all the files to the CF card, but I needed 2 assistants to make that large of a "print on the spot" shoot work.
I'd do it again, it was fun.

Because people really like prints for profs here's my working routine:
Before having a laptop I simply get to the lab and choosen the ones to proof (I didn't do it for all, just the most selling ones). I then choosen them it in the ´minilab digital monitor.
know I have a laptop and I pass the files from the cf cart to it between shooting points (from the grooms house to church, from church to reception, etc.). when driving to lab with my collegue one drives and the other one roughly chooses the proofs to print and save it on a cd. My question was in the sense of saving the time of passing the files to the laptop and optimize the workin schedule.

I've experimented with my S1, i love the program! the only thing that is interesting, is that you control everything through the computer! i like it

I've used my D100 teathered to the laptop while I was copying about 8000 documents. It was quite fast -- it was already downloaded to the computer by the time I got the next document in place -- and I didn't have to worry about the CF card filling up. I just kept shooting. Except for this situation, it's not something I'd want to try other than in a studio. |
