I walked into the Calumet store in Bensenville, IL to pick up a tripod mount part, and was shooting the breeze with one of the sales guys. I mentioned that I had a 5D on order with them, and he held up a "wait a second" finger... he walked over to a display case and returned with a Canon 5D, with a 17-40L mounted. I had to get back to work quickly so I was only able to get a feel for handling, but I must say... OMG I'm in lust. The view through the viewfinder is wonderful, big, bright; very easy to judge focus, much easier than my 10D. The shutter button has a very soft touch, no "hard" halfway detent like the 10D. That will take some getting used to. It's amazing just HOW wide the 17mm end of the 17-40 is on this cam. I'd forgotten just how wide a sub-20mm lens actually is on a full frame cam.
The body size and weight felt "just right" to me. It does not feel that different from the 10D, and that's a good thing. I'm not a fan of the larger 1-series form factor, I prefer a mid-size body. The size and ergonomics of the 5D body seem perfect. The grip is very comfortable and my fingers were not up against the lens mount, as they are on the 10D sometimes.

jejejeĆ¢„Ā¢, that's JUST how I felt when I handled the 20D (compatred to my dinky little Coolpix 5700), and then I had to wait a week for my body to arrive and they gave me a 300D loaner and I was like wait a minute, this isn't anywhere NEAR as nice as what I ordered, wow...

Betcha can't wait 'til October...

ENVY is starting to creep in here. I still have some way to go before I can scrape the cash together.

While I was in Calumet I noticed that you can apply for a Calumet credit card, and you get 90-day free financing... so it looks like I won't actually have to cough up until January :-)
