cry cry cry for no comments.

I just added this to my profile because i'd about to wade thigh deep into the low scoring shoes.

In an average challenge, i give out 1-2 3's at most, and none lower. This is a below average challenge - that is not my fault. I am going to try and comment on everything below a 4 but there are over 100 images that just don't cut it imho. Therefore, i don't have time to sugar coat it. I'm gonna tell it like it is. If you don't like my comment, don't PM me and bitch - bitch at all the people in the forums that are moaning that they arent getting helpful comments. You had to come to this page to PM me, if you couldnt be bothered reading this, or send me a angry PM anyways, i will tell you to eat a monkey butt.

I've got butts lined up and ready to go.

I hope mine is one of them, I really want to know what I should have done differently (or what others think I should have done differently).

Spare me no mercy. Please.

Good for you, mesmeraj!

This challenge finally pushed my resolve: I will no longer be giving out 5's.

I have decided that most photos are technically worthy or they are not. So on my first pass in voting you'll be getting a 6 or a 4. I will adjust those votes away from the center as needed. No more fence sitting for me. No more, "Ho, hum, 5" and I move on. So if you get one of my 4's for your shoes and don't see a comment, it's because I'm overwhelmed. (I'll do my best on the 1-3's....and the one's I can't promote from their original 6.)

My wife was actually shoulder-surfing last night as I scored some entries. I couldn't believe how ruthless my sweet wife was! "What? You're giving that a six? It sucks!" I had to explain that my scale is from 5 to 10, with DNMC's getting a 4. It saves me from moving my finger so much on the touch-pad. I gave out lots of fives, so many plain old shots of shoes sitting on something. Plain, plain, plain.

I was wondering what some people were thinking as they took their shots... "Oh, the Shoe challenge, OK, I'm going to get off my butt, walk over to the front hall, bang, and I'm spent."

I mean, HELLO! I'm no photographer, but can't we all just spend the time we take while sitting on the toilet to at least hatch a plan?

I'm not asking for much... Set the darn shoes on fire, freeze them in a block of ice, toss them off the Empire State Building, tie them to a police car bumper, fill them with milk, put them on a nekkid chic, just for gosh sake, get them out of the front hall!

Hehe.
;-)

no kidding slippy - hell some people didnt even remove thier shoes from thier closet. Come on people! And wtf is with people taking off thier shoes and putting them in weird places. Why are so many shoes looking out on a mountaintop view? How did they get there, what are they looking at?
Are sneakers breeding in the forests and mountains of america?

Thank you.

"Constructive criticism is the process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional one....
Because of the overuse of negative, nagging criticism, some people become defensive even when receiving constructive criticism given in a spirit of good will. Constructive criticism is more likely to be accepted if the criticism is focused on the recipient's work or behavior....
Especially sensitive individuals may adopt a passive, defeated attitude if they view a situation as personal, pervasive, or permanent (see learned helplessness). Others may adopt an aggressive response."

Why be so ruthless? If it's not helpful and not heeded, maybe you need to adjust your approach and philosophy towards voting and assessing photos...........

And I support you in your ruthlessness!
Not all criticism needs to be kind and polite--just accurate and reasoned.

Hey azoychika if you have a personal problem with me take it to PM or complain to SC. Don''t follow me around on the boards crying at everything i say. I am not you, i don't care how you think i should go about things, because i am going to do them my way. I am not going to go around praising half arsed images, because people are here to learn and in the art word you have to hear that you stuff is shit before you can improve. I have 6 y/o photography students that can handle constructive crits, its time you stepped up with the 6 year olds and learnt to accept it to. This is a competition,an educational site, it doesnt exist to stroke an ego.

I have work torn up by great metors and artist, because it wasnt good enough. I am close friends with an art professor that will smash your pottery if you do a crappy job of it. The only way you learn form your mistakes is to acknowledge them, admit what you have done is crap and set out to do something better.
